The United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) was formally established in 1967 but has a rich history that began more than 200 years ago.  UCCSA is comprised of some 300,000 members, and nearly 300 congregations in the five southern African countries of Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Congregationalism was brought to Southern Africa by the London Missionary Society (now Council for World Mission) and the American Board Mission (now Wider Church Ministries) in 1799 and 1835 respectively.  On Oct 3, 1967 the UCCSA was formed through a union of the two branches of Congregationalism.  In 1972 the South African Association of the Disciples of Christ merged with the UCCSA.
