The United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) was founded in 1893 by the American Board of Foreign Missions, predecessor mission body of Global Ministries.  Global Ministries works closely with this partner church in the many facets of its ministry in Zimbabwe.  The denominational membership today is approximately 30,000 people in 47 churches and several preaching points and worship groups.  The UCCZ works ecumenically on important efforts in Zimbabwe and is responsible for many schools and several health institutions in the country.

The area around Mt. Selinda and Chikore suffers from a serious lack of clean, potable water due to the low water table.  The need for additional water for the area is great.  Below is a partial list of priorty water projects.

  • Rebai needs one electric pump well.
  • Chinaa High School needs one electric pump well.
  • Chinaa Primary needs one manual pump well.  They currently are getting water from an unsafe river source.
  • Shekwa Secondary needs one manual pump well.
  • Shekwa Primary needs one manual and one electric pump well.  They currently are getting water from an unsafe source two miles away.
  • Bangira Primary needs one electric pump well.  They currently carry water two miles.   This well would serve the community and three schools.
  • Beacon Hill needs one electric pump well.
  • Emerald needs one manual pump well.
  • DeMire needs one manual pump well.
  • Mt. Selinda Station Farm needs three manual pump wells.

Two water projects at Mt. Selinda have been funded by Global Ministries donors, and a third well is being funded from those honoring Global Ministries long-term volunteers Andy Jepson and Lindley Kinerk.  The additional needs, examples of which are listed above, range from drilling new boreholes to repairing or providing electric and/or manual pumps.  The amounts needed vary from situation to situation but estimates range from $6,000 to $20,000.
