Although this event is primarily for Disciples women attending the Quadrennial, it is open to their husbands and other Disciples men, as well as, men and women from the UCC who might want to take advantage of this training opportunity. If you can see yourself using your specific gifts and available time to serve as a Ministries and Mission Interpreter in your church context, please read on and fill out the response form for the June 21-23, 2010 MMI training event in Greensboro, North Carolina.

A Ministries and Mission Interpreter (MMI) is a person who:

  • has a passion for learning about God's mission
  • tells the story of Global ministries in our congregations, Regions and Conferences
  • motivates and trains others to be involved in global mission
  • links the interest of an individual or congregation with global mission resources and opportunities
  • works within existing Region/Conference committees and communication networks to tell the story
  • builds and participates in the national MMI network

An MMI serves by:

  • utilizing Global Ministries resources, videos, websites and staff in one's own continuing mission education
  • inter-relating with Region or Conference staff, boards, women's groups and mission or outreach committees
  • making global mission visible at regional assemblies, annual meetings, women's gatherings, etc.
  • presenting global mission stories in individual conversations, small groups, worship or special programs
  • sharing articles with church or denominational websites, newsletters, or list serves
  • finding ways to fit global mission into congregational and Conference/ Region ministry goals and structures

The MMI training agenda will include:

  • Worship and Mission Moments lead by GM Missionaries
  • Stories and testimonies of Global Partners
  • Global Mission priority updates from GM Staff
  • Workshops on specific global mission opportunities
  • Mission funding interpretation strategies
  • Strategies for education and advocacy work
  • Training on making global mission presentations
  • Steps for Being a Global Mission Church
  • Process for developing an action plan
