Our focus is still on the "Comfort Women" issue in which women were used by the Japanese military in the 1930's and 40's. In the present day, prostitution near military bases and trafficking of women and children has become an issue.
Pray for: The various agencies and organizations that are dealing with comfort women.
Renewed faith that the Christian minority can be a prophetic voice in this increasingly secular society.
Lee-Takei, Sandra Japan Sandra Lee-Takei, A member of Sycamore Church, United Church of Christ, El Cerrito, California, serves with the Council on Cooperative Mission in Sendai. She is the assistant to the Director of Youth Ministries at the Emmaus Center.

Luzares, Casilda Japan Casilda Luzares, a member of Church of the Holy Redeemer, United Church of Christ in the Phillipines, serves the United Church of Christ in Japan, Kyoto Conference. She is an English Literature Professor at Doshisha University and does pastoral ministries with migrant workers from the Phillipines, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Mendsendiek, Martha Japan Martha Mensendiek, a member of Church of the Crossroads, United Church of Christ, Honolulu, Hawaii, serves with the Doshisha University, Kyoto, Japan through the Council on Cooperative Mission. She teaches social welfare.

Mensendiek, Jeffrey Japan Jeffrey Mensendiek, a member of First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Berkeley, California serves the Council on Cooperative Mission. He is assigned to the Emmaus Center in Sendai where he works as director of youth activities.
