China

ImageIn China today, many families, especially in the rural areas, lack stable incomes.  Many poor families have an average income of only $37.50 per year per family member.  The children are the ones most greatly affected by their families' poverty.  In the matter of children's education, many parents need their children to help tend to the crops and fields or to work at home cleaning, cooking, and caring for younger siblings instead of going to school. If children attend school, the loss of income for the family is a problem.  Moreover, although Chinese elementary schools do not require a tuition fee, there are other expenses for children's education such as books, schoolbags, shoes, and lunches.

Global Ministries works with the Back-to-School Program, which helps children go back to school. A small grant of $100 per child provides for their financial needs for that school year including transportation, meals, clothing, and shoes.  By supporting children's education it is hoped that poor children will be equipped in ways which will open up many different kinds of choices for them for their future.

In eastern China, Global Ministries supports the Back-to-School Program in Shan Xi and Anhui Provinces.  Global Ministries partner in this region of China for these efforts is the Chuzhou Education Department.
