New Mission Priority Postions Announced by Global Ministries

Global Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ has identified 8 priority positions for special funding. These mission priority positions have been received by Global Ministries from partner churches and church agencies and will be filled on the basis of a special fund raising project. These fully supported positions provide the missionary with a modest salary, health care, pension, housing and additional benefits related to educational benefits for children.

University Christian Church, Fort Worth, TX Funds a Mission Priority Position

AFRICA

Democratic Republic of Congo: Medical doctor to serve with the Community of Disciples of Christ in Congo in rural areas with an ability to adapt to very limited, outdated or non-existent facilities. French or Lingala required. Four-year term.

Democratic Republic of Congo: Leadership and Economic Development Consultant to strengthen the capacity of leaders of the Disciples of Christ in Congo to rebuild their war ravaged rural areas. Candidate should be versed in strategic planning and management, and grant writing. French or Lingala required. Four-year term.

Zimbabwe: Two medical doctors (MD) to serve with the United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe responsible for health care of persons in surrounding communities. Candidates must be prepared to work in facilities that have been neglected while the country was under economic and political stress. Four-year term.

EAST ASIA & THE PACIFIC

Fiji: Program associate to work with advocacy and justice issues related to global warming, nuclear testing, etc. with the Pacific Christian Council in Fiji. B.S. or M.Div. degree. Four-year term.

LATIN AMERICA & THE CARIBBEAN

Peru: Consultant to work in the following areas: ecumenical relations; programs and projects related to sustainable economic opportunities for ex-political prisoners; and the promotion of national reconciliation based on nonviolence and social justice with the Association for Legal Aid and Social Action in Lima. The candidate must be able to write and speak Spanish fluently, an M.Div. degree, five years of pastoral experience and knowledge of Latin American history. Four-year term.

MIDDLE EAST and EUROPE

Palestine: Advocacy and fund raising support staff: Capacity building in these areas. This person would help the YWCA of Palestine's General Secretary to identify international partners, trust funds, prepare materials, and work on advocacy, since this is to become a focus area for the YWCA. The YWCA would like to train youth members in advocacy, and how to present the issues, so the position will require some leadership development in this area. Four-year term.

Lebanon: Research and project associate: This position will involve research, project design, project planning and implementation of regional and international projects of interfaith dialogue, peacemaking, conflict resolution, and networking for the Forum for Development, Culture, and Dialogue (FDCD). Four-year term.

SOUTHERN ASIA

Indonesia: Consultant for medical ministry: This position will be twofold: first, to provide medical services as a physician with concentration on women's health, particularly maternity, and secondly, to plan and guide the medical ministry of the Evangelical Christian Church of Timor in ways that would educate and empower local congregations about health care and identify and train potential candidates who would be able to provide primary health care in rural settings. Medical degree and experience required. Four-year term.
