Amherst United Church of Christ, Amherst, New Hampshire
From New Hampshire, we received the following story:
On May 31, 2008, the walls of the 234 year old Congregational Church of Amherst, New Hampshire, United Church of Christ rocked in worship at the U2charist. This service helped to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals and featured the music of the Irish rock band U2 throughout the service. All those who attended sang, clapped, tossed earth balls around the sanctuary, and generally rocked on, all the while being inspired to follow Jesus’ mandate to help the poor and love your neighbor, especially our neighbors in distant lands. Approximately 100 people attended this service, which included a sermon by Pastor Catriona Grant, communion accompanied by live Haitian drumming, and a special offering to support Global Ministries Hope of Hope program, which educates some of the poorest children in the slums of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Their efforts resulted in a donation of $1,700.00. Global Ministries recognizes the over and above efforts of the Congregational Church of Amherst, New Hampshire.
