Haiti

Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. With 99 percent of the population of African descent, it has suffered military dictatorships and invasions since the declaration of independence during the 18th century.

In February of 2004, an armed rebellion forced the resignation and exile of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and a provisional government took control.  René Préval, the current president, was elected in the Haitian general election in 2006.

Pray for: The Haitian people and the rebuilding of their nation in light of the devastating earthquake that took place on January 12, 2010.
