spacer Brothers and Sisters in Christ

One person we met as we spoke to congregations about our work in Turkey for Global Ministries put it like this: "You know, it's only in my church that I hear the positive teaching that Muslims are our brothers and sisters. I don't really hear this message elsewhere." Where is this core teaching about our common humanity to be protected and proclaimed, if not in our churches and religious traditions? In times when the cultures in which we live are tempted to bigotry, our religious communities are repositories of truth, heralds of God's love for all, and wellsprings of friendship. We know by faith that Muslims and Christians are brothers and sisters, but it takes courage these days to proclaim that faith. When we can find that resolve in our faith communities to challenge the religious bigotry that surrounds us, then our Muslim brothers and sisters surely join with Paul in thanking God for us. We have truly proclaimed our faith to the world.

Peace,
