The Polish Reformed Church was founded in 1551 in Southern Poland. After World War II it was reorganized as the Polish Evangelical Reformed Church which continues today the rich tradition of Polish Reformed Christianity. There are approximately 4,000 members spread across 17 places of worship in Poland. Members of the Polish Evangelical Reformed Church are a tiny minority in a population of 38 million Poles. Global Ministries is in partnership with the Evangelical Reformed Church and missionaries Doug and Liz Searles are located in Łódź.

Library Project

The Evangelical Reformed Church of Poland is seeking funds to add to their collection of theological books available in the denominational library. Seminary students and pastors do not have access to books by contemporary authors. Available resources on many topics such as the meaning of the Lord’s Supper or ordination offer only one or two points of view because the book selection is so limited.

Gifts totaling $500 would be a good start to this library enhancement project. This would allow the library to purchase at least 25 books or more to extend the scope of available materials.

Music Project

The Evangelical Reformed Church is also seeking musical instruments that could be used in a variety of ways. Funds would be used primarily toward a keyboard, guitar, and microphones. If possible, the church might also seek to purchase an electronic drum pad.

These musical instruments would be portable and could be used for:

youth retreats, camps, and other gatherings
diaspora ministry to areas where there is no church building but a meeting at another site
special concerts in various churches. At present, a young composer and singer is giving concerts in various churches with rented equipment which is costly.

Developing music is very important in the Polish Reformed Church. Churches may have organs but no organist. The hymnals are mostly songs from the 16th and 17th centuries. Part of the ministry of Doug and Liz Searles in Poland is helping the Reformed Church develop choirs and other music outreach. For the church in Poland to have their own instruments would be an important development in their ability to do this outreach, as to date they are mostly using borrowed instruments.
