Global Service Co-workers

"Being a Global Service Co-worker challenged and enriched my life. Appalled by the hardship and deprivation that characterizes the lives of so many, yet humbled by the spiritual strength and joyful worship I saw in these communities,  I came away with new appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit and the power of faith." -Dr. Ann Nichols, Global Service Co-worker in Zambia

The Global Service Co-workers program offers a faith-based opportunity for experienced, committed, members of United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations to connect in a meaningful way with Global Ministries’ projects and programs that can use their services.

  • A pastor could offer to serve at a seminary
  • A computer consultant could assist in technical assistance for a school
  • A professor could offer to teach a course at a university
  • A nurse could use skills in training workers at a health care institution

Global Service Co-workers participate in the life of a partner for a few weeks up to a year, depending on the need to supplement an institution with capacity building, assist partners in developing new programs, and/or to help a community to complete a well-defined project.

Global Service Co-workers provide for their own expenses, including travel, room and board, and health insurance. Global Ministries partners will assist with locating housing and other ar-rangements for the well being of the co-workers during their period of ser-vice. Global Ministries provides initial training and acts as a go-between for people and projects.

Global Service Co-workers upon return to the United States, will receive assistance in order to share their experiences across congregations and communions in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ.

Global Ministries also hasshort-term opportunities identified by International Partners. These assignments are from two weeks up to one year. This is a great way to use vacation, summer break as a student or educator or a sabbatical opportunity as a pastor or professional.
