spacer New Zealand Earthquake

February 23, 2011

The quake struck just before 1 p.m. local time on Tuesday, when the city was bustling with commerce and tourism. It was less powerful than a 7.1 temblor that struck before dawn on Sept. 4 that damaged buildings but killed no one. Experts said Tuesday’s quake was deadlier because it was closer to the city and because more people were about.

Xiaoling Zhu, Global Ministries Area Executive for East Asia and the Pacific, and Susan Sanders, One Great Hour of Sharing Administrator, have reached out to partners in Aotearoa/New Zealand sharing messages of concern and support.  One Great Hour of Sharing emergency response solidarity grants have been authorized for transmittal as soon as we receive word from our partners.

How You Can Help
