GM Partner in Jerusalem, Sabeel, Shares a Message
"The situation in the Occupied Territories, including the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, is dire and desperate. Israel continues to jeopardize any opportunity for a peaceful negotiated settlement by creating facts on the ground in defiance of the international community. It is becoming increasingly clear that Israel has already finalized its intended objectives in the Occupied Territories and has a blueprint for a final resolution of the conflict, which it aims to achieve unilaterally. This means that the unilateral withdrawal on Israel's part from the Gaza strip was not a haphazard move, but part of a comprehensive plan to avoid the establishment of a viable, contiguous and independent Palestinian state. Actually, had Israel been interested in a negotiated peace settlement, it would have accepted the comprehensive Arab Peace Initiative that has been on the table since 2002. It is important to point out that an Israeli unilateral withdrawal from the remnants of a fragmented West Bank, together with its full control of all borders and border crossings, will only be a repetition of the Gaza situation and all the brutality inherent in such an occupation, as highlighted in the recent Goldstone report… To read the entire message, click here:

UN Embargo Vote Confirms US Isolation on Cuba
Democracy for the Americas writes: "On Wednesday October 28th for the 18th year the unilateral US embargo of Cuba will be condemned by the United Nations by a nearly unanimous vote…. Supporting the annual UN process is a 117 page report issued by the Secretary General on the "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba". This year 121 countries plus the European Union and 25 UN organs and agencies summarized their reasons…" To read the entire article, click here:

The Evangelical Church in Germany Elects a New Council Chair
"For the first time in its history, the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) has elected a woman as Chairperson of the EKD Council. In Ulm on Wednesday 28 October, the EKD Synod and Church Conference elected Margot Kässmann, bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, to succeed Wolfgang Huber, by a clear majority. Kässmann obtained 132 of the 142 votes cast. Nikolaus Schneider, Praeses of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland, was elected deputy chairperson… To read more, click here:
