Disciples Hispanic Pastors Visit Partners in Mexico
Felix Ortiz, GM Latin America and Caribbean Area Executive and Huberto Pimentel, Disciples National Hispanic Pastor, led a group of six pastors (Jose and Martha Almanza, Hector Hilario Curiel, Vilson Hurtado, Israel Martinez, and Juan Davila Ortiz) on a People-to-People pilgrimage to visit partners in Mexico April 22-29, 2009. The group also spent time with GM missionaries to Mexico, Justino Perez-Ojeda and Zaida Rivera-Rivera. To view some photos from the pilgrimage, click here:

Churches for Middle East Peace Sends a Letter Before the Pope's Visit to the Region
Churches for Middle East Peace, a coalition of 22 U.S. church bodies, sent a letter to Secretary of State Clinton, on the occasion of the visit this week of Pope Benedict XVI to the Holy Land, highlighting the rapid decline of the Palestinian Christian community there. Oregon Disciples Celebrate their Commitment to Be a Global Mission Region
On May 1 and 2 the Oregon Region gathered together at First Christian Church in Albany to celebrate their journey in global mission. The MissionWorks event began on Friday evening with a presentation about GM work in Botswana and Lesotho by GM Missionaries, Jim and Jayanthi Wilson. On Saturday morning the group gathered to affirm the mission legacy of the region by recognizing former missionaries, Woman-to-Woman participants, People-to-People group mission trip participants and the current Ministries and Mission Interpreters (MMI) in the Region. A certificate was presented to the Oregon Region by Bob Shebeck, Executive of Mission Interpretation, acknowledging the on-going commitment to Be a Global Mission Region. An Update and Action Alert on behalf of Lori Berensen in Peru
"Despite the odds she faced owing to compromised health after 13.5 years of incarceration in harsh Peruvian prison environments, Lori gave birth Wednesday morning May 6th in Lima. Salvador Anesporí Apari Berenson was delivered via Caesarian-section due to Lori's precarious back condition that will require delicate spinal surgery to prevent permanent nerve damage.
