WCM/GM to Sponsor Global Mission Event for Conferences Next Week
On November 18-20, approximately eighty UCC Conference staff and leaders will participate in a consultation on global mission with WCM/GM program staff in Cleveland, OH. This gathering will be a first and Cally Rogers-Witte, Co-executive of Global Ministries, shares the following: "Our hope is that this consultation will be very "dialogical" with questions, affirmations, and suggestions going both directions – conference to national and national to conference… It is about conference folk bringing ideas and suggestions and connections to us, at the same time that we want to be sure they know what resources we already have that could be helpful to them." Results of the consultation will be shared in future updates.
Doug and Liz Searles, GM Missionaries to Poland, Begin their New Ministry
"The Searles are settled in Poland: coffee machine and toaster ease our mornings. We have internet and a printer-scanner… Sunday, we have our first potluck at Lodz (Woodge) church, and our first of eleven midweek two-hour presentations with a translator---one at each of the eleven Evangelical Reformed churches. It will feel as if we're itinerating again--traveling from church to church. Middle East Evangelical Churches Call for Prayer and Solidarity with Iraqi Christians
"We, like all others, are appalled at the news coming from Iraq about the systematic killing, terrifying, and expelling of Christians from their homes in Mousel. It is reported about two thousand Christian families have been displaced from Mousel due to the terror and violence they suffered. They fled their houses with only what they could carry; many fled with the only the clothes on their backs. Moreover, about twenty have been killed thus far, churches have been destroyed or burnt, and the atrocity goes on. So far, we have heard from many reputable voices, many of those voices came from notable Muslim leaders, condemning and denouncing what is occurring in Mousel.
