UCC and Disciples Pass "Be a Global Mission Church" Resolutions
This past week the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) adopted the "Be a Global Mission Church" resolution. The resolution invites Disciples to "claim the church's core identity as a global mission church in all of its expressions, and calls on the church to live out this commitment in all current and future mission priorities." The 27th General Synod underscored the importance of Global Ministries' "Be a Global Mission Church" initiative, voting in June to adopt a resolution asking all settings of the UCC to pursue the Global Mission Church designation. National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) Call on Government to Resign
NCCK, shocked that Cabinet has decided not to establish a Special Tribunal or to refer the matter of post election violence to the International Criminal Court, calls on the President, Prime Minister, and government "to honourably resign and allow Kenyans to choose new leadership that will steer this country away from impunity and the high potential of national collapse." "The Time Has Come"- Churches for Middle East Peace July 2009 Policy Briefing
"We have reached the end of the beginning of the process initiated by President Obama in January to bring Israel, the Palestinians, and Israel's other Arab neighbors together to negotiate an agreement for peace— the so-called two state solution to conflict in the Holy Land. The approach and timing for reaching an agreement (but not yet its implementation) are beginning to take shape. Judy Chan in Hong Kong helps Ministers "Find their Voice"
"The first time I lived in Hong Kong was 1986. I studied at a local university for a year and volunteered teaching English part time in a Christian vocational school…I hadn't been in front of a classroom since that time. Then last year, I got an invitation from the HK Church of Christ in China to lead a class on English communications for ministers. The idea was to give their clergy more confidence in using English to lead prayers, give devotions and even to preach. While most ministers use Chinese in their daily work, they have many opportunities to use English – with international visitors, at overseas conferences and for further study. It's definitely a necessity in the ecumenical world. After 15 years in English communications at Hong Kong Christian Council, I realized I do know something about this field. I wouldn't call myself an 'expert' but I have a passion for excellence in communicating the Word of God, whether it's in the pulpit, over the radio or in a magazine…" To read the rest of Judy's story, click here:  http://globalministries.org/eap/missionaries/finding-my-voice.html
