GM Partners, the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT), Send Update After Recent Storm
"At the present time, under such critical conditions and until the water level decreases, it is very difficult to fully assess the true and total picture as to extent of loss of life, or damage to the land and property.  Broken roads and collapsed bridges not to mention electricity cuts and telephone lines damaged are hampering communication and the assessment process.  From what PCT staff have witnessed and based on the media reports there are bound to be villages swept away.   It is really devastating - the clean up will be horrendous and it will be necessary to monitor and control any infections that could arise from dirty water, debris, dead animals and so on… On behalf of the PCT and the people of Taiwan we express our deep appreciation for your concern and ask that you hold the victims of this major disaster in your prayers as well as those involved in the daunting task of rescue and relief in the weeks to come." Latin America Working Group Announces Day of Action for Cuba on September 30, 2009
"Fifty years is enough already!  It's time to end this legacy of isolation and time to start engaging our neighbor.  We've been pressuring Congress to end the travel ban, but we'll need your help to push it over the edge.  We're organizing a National Day of Action called CubaGO!  Strategically-identified delegations from across the country will be coming to DC to meet with their members of Congress. But in order to really make an impact, the delegations will need back-up from you.  That is why we're encouraging you and to "Call in for Cuba!" Save the date, September 30th, to organize to End the Travel Ban! 35th Assembly of the UCCSA to be held in Botswana August 19-25, 2009
"The 35th Assembly of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa, UCCSA, which is to be held in Molepolole, Botswana, from the 19th to the 25th August 2009, will be more than just a traditional UCCSA family gathering. While there will be time for internal issues, there will also be time to attend to Ecumenical matters… Also present will be Dr. Rogate Mshana, serves the World Council of Churches, WCC, as the programme executive on poverty, wealth and ecology. Dr Mshana will deliver the third Joseph Wing Memorial Lecture at the Assembly. Joseph Wing was the first General Secretary of the UCCSA and served from 1967 to 1987. The Joseph Wing Lecture was inaugurated at the 33rd Assembly in 2005 and it is meant to revive theological thinking and to encourage the church on the principles that Joseph Wing stood for, such as ecumenism and social justice. The Joseph Wing lecture will be an important layer in the development of the theme "In Christ there is a future: Hope in a time of Economic crisis." To read more and also a letter from Sandra Gourdet encouraging the UCCSA as they begin their Assembly, click here:http://globalministries.org/news/africa/assembly-uccsa.html
