Sri Lanka: Growing Concern for Trapped Civilians, ACT Mobilises Response
As displaced Sri Lankans struggle to find safety from the ongoing conflict in the northeastern part of the country, ACT International members are mobilising emergency assistance to meet the needs of affected people. The National Christian Council of Sri Lanka (NCCSL), a member of ACT (and a Global Ministries International Partner), reports that internally displaced persons are fleeing into government-controlled areas in the northern part of the country. NCCSL added, "People are traveling on foot carrying nothing but their children." To read the entire report, click here: Sri Lanka: Growing concern for trapped civilians, ACT mobilises response

Inanda Seminary in Durban, South Africa Celebrates 140 years (1869-2009)
Inanda Seminary has graduated more than 8000 students that have gone into the world exemplifying the school's motto, "Shine Where You Are" (Philippians 2:15).  Inanda Seminary was founded 1 March 1869 by the American Board of Missions (ABM) as a Christian school for black girls in Durban, South Africa. The Rev. Daniel Lindley and Mrs. Lucy Lindley came to South Africa in 1835, as one of six couples sent by the ABM to start mission work in the country. Inanda Seminary became the first secondary school exclusively for African girls in southern Africa…. The school will formally celebrate 140 years March 7, 2009. If you would like to send your words of congratulations and prayers of support, please e-mail them to psanborn@dom.disciples.org or mail them to Global Ministries, Africa Office PO Box 1986 Indianapolis, IN 46206.

New Day Magazine for Women Focuses on FEDICE in Ecuador
New Day Magazine for Christian Women, a spiritual formation tool published by Christian Board of Publication, features 8 stories of FEDICE in the 2009-10 copies available from the printer only a couple weeks ago.  This resource is written in English and Spanish.  8 stories of women of FEDICE, written by Blanca Puma and accompanied by pictures she took of these women, are part of the magazine scattered throughout.  A map of Ecuador and recipes of Ecuador are also in the magazine.  In addition, the full size map of South America that is an accompanying piece, tells of FEDICE and other Global Ministries missionaries and partners in South America. The leader's guide for New Day Magazine also contains many interesting stories of FEDICE to go along with the stories of the women of FEDICE. Georgia Disciples Travel to Mungeli Hospital in India
Over 20 people from Disciples churches in the Georgia region are being called to be God's witnesses on a People-to-People Pilgrimage to India this winter, although in this instance they will be witnesses in a very different way.  A witness is one who testifies to what he has seen and heard and knows to be true.  While these pilgrims will surely testify to their own faith, the purpose of our journey lies in our desire to become witnesses to the living out of the Good News at the Christian Hospital, Mungeli India.  We hope to see first hand how our Global Ministry takes place at "the ends of the earth".  I hope that as a result of seeing and sharing the "witnessing, loving, and serving" of Drs. Anil  and Teri Henry, the Christian hospital, school and congregation in Mungeli, that all of us will be become better witnesses to our own faith.  "Sometimes we must travel far to find what is near."
