Following the tragic plane crash killing the Polish president, his wife, and many political and military leaders, the Evangelical Reformed Church of Poland issued the following message of condolences:

"The recent tragedy in Smolensk has come as a great shock to us all.  Today, the Evangelical-Reformed Church in Poland has learned that the President of Poland, Prof. Dr. Lech Kaczynski and his beloved wife, Maria Kaczynka, perished along with many others who accompanied them in their last flight.  We offer our condolences to those who are in pain and sorrow:  the families and friends of the passengers and of the flight crew.  At this dramatic moment in the history of Poland, we lift our prayers to the Lord and ask for comfort for all those who are suffering from this loss.  May God be close to those who have died, and may God grant our nation the will, the unity, and the power to survive this difficult period, disregarding any differences that may divide us. We must remind ourselves that "He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all their faces" (Isaiah 25:8a)."
