The WCC is proud that one of its presidents, Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania, has been awarded the highest distinction of the Republic of Albania in recognition of his merits in the field of inter-religious dialogue, WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit wrote in a 22 April letter.

The head of the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania was awarded the "Skanderbeg" medal, named after a 15th century Albanian national hero, earlier this month, together with the three spiritual leaders of the Muslim, Roman Catholic and Bektashi communities in the country.
