The Dalit’s of the of Ramanathapuram District in Tamil Nadu, India, abandoned the village of Appanoor after a poor Dalit man was brutally murdered and another young man was critically injured by members of another caste who were in the majority community. The Christian Dalits sought asylum in distant city slums and other nearby Dalit communities. The displacement deepened the poverty of this community. These people were unaware of the resources and rights to which they were entitled. Through the REMOTE project, young Dalit people are getting training in skills that also build confidence. Many of the trainees have moved into work opportunities with fair wages
