The Evangelical Protestant Church of Timor (GMIT) is the second largest Protestant church in Indonesia with about two million members, more than 2,000 congregations, and about 900 pastors.  It serves one of the poorest provinces of Indonesia, and the life of a rural pastor is difficult.  The pastors and their families often are isolated from access to adequate health care.  As a result, a number of GMIT pastors have died in service, leaving behind children who are still of school age but have very limited means of support.  In Indonesia even junior high and high school require tuition payments or other school fees, making access to education very difficult for many pastoral families.

In response to this situation, GMIT seeks scholarship support to help guarantee an education for the orphaned children of its pastors.  Presently, more than 25 children are in need of monthly support.  Twenty to twenty-five dollars per month is enough to ensure an education for these children.

This scholarship program has been administered by the Synod office of GMIT, which provides administrative services and produces a quarterly report on the progress of the children.  The program has been very much appreciated by current GMIT pastors because it gives them the assurance that should anything happen to them, their children will still be remembered by the church.
