Pray for India on Sunday, March 19, 2017

Lectionary Selection: John 9:1-41

Prayers for India:

Our heavenly Father, we gather before you on this Sabbath day and praise your holy name for you are the greatest healer of all. Your almighty power has given sight to many who were born blind. Blind, not due to their parent’s or their own sins, but blind so that Your power could be shown in them. Let us remember Lord that in every handicap or disease or calamity, it is your healing power that performs miracles. We are just the hands that do the work but the healing comes from you alone O God, your Holy name be praised! We thank you for the week of Feb. 12-19th when we celebrated the ‘Healing Ministry Week’ and ‘Healing Ministry Sunday’ together as one, all over India, remembering and upholding all those who work in various capacities and our partner institutions involved in this ministry of healing. Thank you Lord, for making us instruments of healing through prayer, faith and togetherness, in partnership with the church.

We also pray for those of us who have chosen to be ‘blind’- blind to the sins of this world, blind to the needs of others, blind to our brothers and sisters in Christ. You came into this world so that the world could see, O God of Light, we pray that You give us the power to see and be sensitive to the cries around us.

We pray for India as she is going through a phase of change and is working towards a clean and transparent economy. We pray that the government’s efforts bring fruit so that corruption and inflation are reduced and the marginalized population is benefited.

In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.

Mission Stewardship Moment from India:

As harvest approaches, people get busy in their fields and have no time to even come to the hospital. A medical emergency at this crucial time throws them back in terms of time and money that they can ill afford. But accidents can’t be prevented and they come to us with injuries from thrashing/grinding machines which need immediate attention in order to save the body part involved. One such injury was sustained by a 35-year-old lady Pushpa, who was brought to us one morning in a grievous state. She was grinding rice that morning when her hair got caught in the belt of the machine and she was thrown backwards with the impact. By the time the machine stopped, her scalp had separated from the forehead all the way to the back of the head. She was taken to the primary care facility in her village and then brought to our hospital where we rushed her for surgery immediately. She did well post-operatively and was back home two weeks later, looking almost her normal self with some tell-tale signs of having had surgery.

Another similar injury to the scalp was brought to us recently but this time it was a young girl of 16 who was sitting on a tractor with two of her siblings while her father was driving. She fell down when he went over a bump and hit her head on a boulder, causing injury to her left eye and left side of head. Fortunately, the eye was spared with all it’s functions intact. She is still with us, improving day by day and will be ready to go home soon.

First and foremost, we give thanks to God that He has made us His instruments of healing. Secondly, we thank Him for placing us in this rural place with our partner church where there is so much work to be done for the less fortunate, but nonetheless, His people. Last but not the least, we thank all of you for your prayers and support in this ministry of healing.
