Message of Encouragement to the Churches in the Democratic Republic of Congo
From the All Africa Conference of Churches
January 8, 2019
Dear Bishops and Presidents,
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
Greetings from the AACC Secretariat.
The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) is thanking God with you that the elections, which were being planned for two years, were finally held on the 30th of December, 2018, and that the Congolese had the opportunity to cast their votes freely, despite some minor challenges in some polling stations and the unfavorable weather.
At these times of high tension, as you await the results, we want to assure you of the prayers of your brothers and sisters from all over the continent. We believe that God will help you navigate this delicate period of your history, with resilience and renewed faith in Him. We also urge you, as churches and other religious groups, to continue preaching a message of peace after the elections to consolidate the national cohesion. Do not let this opportunity for a first democratic transition disappear.
We also request you to encourage any party, which might not agree with the results as announced, to use the legal means provided in the legal framework governing presidential and legislative elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo to air their grievances.
Receive these words of encouragement from the scriptures as written by Paul to the Romans: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
