NCC condemns terrorist attacks in Manchester, Minya Province
This past week the world witnessed a heinous terrorist attack against young people attending a pop concert in Manchester, England. Along with all people of goodwill, the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA condemns this horrific act of violence, and we mourn for the victims alongside their families and friends.
This same evil was perpetrated against Coptic Orthodox Christians, many of them young people, this morning in Egypt. This terrorist action, which took place as workmen and worshippers were on their way to a monastery, follows Palm Sunday bombings of two Coptic Orthodox churches which also claimed innocent lives. We join our Coptic brothers and sisters in mourning the dead and injured and extend our prayers to those who lost loved ones.
There is absolutely no justification for such violence. Murder is murder, and evil is evil.
[The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ leadership sent a message of sympathy and prayers following the Manchester attack. Global Ministries sent words of solidarity and support to partners in Egypt following the Minia attack.]
