In The News: Netanyahu, Greenblatt Meet for Five Hours on Way to Move Diplomatic Process Forward [The Jerusalem Post]
Following a five hour Monday evening meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump’s advisor Jason Greenblatt the Prime Minister’s offices issued a statement. According to a statement, the two affirmed the joint commitment of the US and Israel to advancing a ‘true, sustainable peace between Israel and the Palestinians that will strengthen Israel’s security and stability in the region.’”

 

Ever Unpredictable, Trump Throws Mahmoud Abbas a Lifeline [The Times of Israel]
The Times of Israel reports, “US President Donald Trump’s phone conversation Friday with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, during which the PA chief was invited to visit to the White House in the near future, has produced considerable optimism in Ramallah.  Abbas’s spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh reported soon after the call on Friday that Trump stressed his ‘commitment to a peace process that would lead to a real peace between Palestinians and Israelis.’”

At 15, He was Shot in the Back by an Israeli Soldier. Now this Palestinian has Dedicated His Life to Peace [The Washington Post]
A Gazan, Yousef Bashir, interning on the Hill in Rep. Connolly’s [D-VA11] office recounts his story of being shot by an Israeli soldier at 15 and the subsequent care he received from Israeli doctors and nurses. In a recent article Yousef told a Washington Post reporter, “Suddenly now I understood my father when he said you have to choose forgiveness over revenge, bravery over fear and peace over war, and this is what any Holy Lander should be doing.” CMEP staff and board members met Yousef during a meeting with Rep. Connolly’s [D-VA11] office.
