Reaching Out Globally Through Prayer At Christmas

This Christmas UCC and Disciples churches in the US will be sending Christmas cards to churches in northeastern Japan. The 85 churches who will be receiving the cards are mostly small rural churches located in and around the vicinity of Fukushima.

Four and a half years have passed since the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster, and the realities are weighing heavier on the lives of the people living there. The churches are ministering in the midst of unprecedented realities. Fukushima stands as a reminder of how rural communities are put at risk on account of the high-energy-needs of urban life. Our brothers and sisters in Christ are walking alongside those who carry the heavy burdens of life in post-Fukushima Japan.
 
Missionary, Rev. Jeffrey Mensendiek, who worked for 23 years with our partners in the Northeastern Conference of the Kyodan, is now coordinating the Christmas Card Project. This is the third year for the project. Our partners are deeply appreciative of this ongoing relationship and sign of solidarity. Jeffrey is also keeping a blog (http://jeffreyfromjapan.blogspot.com/) to keep churches in the US informed about what is happening in Japan. Churches in the US who join this project will be lifting the churches up in prayer during Advent.
