Pachakutik: Mission as Deep Transformation

Bethany Waggoner serves as a Global Mission Intern with the Ecumenical Foundation for Development, Integration, Training and Education (FEDICE).  Her appointment is supported by Week of Compassion. 

In the Kichwa language, pacha means “time or land,” and kutik means “return to,” hence the word pachakutik implies a return in time or a cultural rebirth. It implies a process of change, rebirth, transformation, or a cataclysm intended to leave behind a reality of injustice and to create “another world possible”. In a nutshell, pachakutik was the Kichwa word for the Andean concept of “revolution,” or “deep transformation”.  That is what mission is all about in Ecuador.  Is the way of change from sorrow to happiness, from violence to peace, from hate to love.  Hear the laughter and see the sense of community on this video.  I am sure you will experience another way for the fullness of life.

Week of Compassion works through pachakutik in Ecuador along with our two companions there.  FEDICE, (the Ecumenical Foundation for Development, Integration, Training and Education) is a Christian organization with a mission to help indigenous and rural communities overcome the vicious cycle of poverty by promoting human development, raising awareness of social and economic change, creating jobs and improving family income.  Working as a Global Mission Intern,  Bethany Waggoner serves to strengthen the capacity building of those organizations in areas of communication and finance.
