Israel fears rightists might carry out massive hate crime during papal visit
Bishops’ statement expresses concern over ‘lack of security’ for Christian property and what they call the ‘lack of responsiveness from the political sector.’ The Israel Police and the Shin Bet fear that right-wing extremists might exploit Pope Francis’ visit to the Holy Land on May 24-26 to carry out a major hate crime to drum up media attention. The security services estimate that the hate crime would target the Christian population in Israel or Christian sites across the country. Read more …
Israeli state water company loses Portugal deal and faces global protests
The Lisbon water company EPAL has announced that it has suspended its collaboration with Israeli state water company Mekorot, protested due to its role in water apartheid, following similar decisions by authorities in the Netherlands and Argentina. Read more…
Thousands of Palestinians Marched in Israel for the Right of Return
Thousands of Palestinians gathered in northern Israel on Tuesday for Israel’s Independence Day to demand the right of return for all refugees displaced during the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.A group of over 10,000 Palestinian citizens of Israel congregated in the Lavie Forest near Tiberius, where a park planted by the Jewish National Fund sits atop the ruins of what was once the village of Lubya.
