“Discover Islam” DVDs and Study Guide available
Discover Islam is making this DVD set available free of charge, and is quite willing to extend this offer to any (and all) local congregations that request it.
The 2011 General Synod adopted a resolution, “On Actions of Hostility Against Islam and the Muslim Community.” The second “resolved” clause of that resolution states, “Be it further resolved that the General Synod encourages all settings of the United Church of Christ to seek ways to learn more about Islam, to engage in relationships with Muslims, and to invite other ecumenical and inter-faith bodies to join with us in this effort.”
One way that United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) members and churches can learn more about Islam is through educational resources, such as the resource available through the Discover Islam foundation. Discover Islam has offered to provide, free of charge, a new DVD set called “Discover Islam: Documentary Films” to various settings of the UCC and Disciples. The DVD set includes six half-hour programs, as follows:
- Islam: An American Faith
- Christians & Islam
- Islam: Faith & History
- Women in Islam
- Islam: A Faith Hijacked
- African Americans & Islam
Discover Islam is making this DVD set available free of charge, and is quite willing to extend this offer to any (and all) local congregations that request it. All a congregation would have to do to obtain a copy is to call Discover Islam and mention they are calling from the United Church of Christ or Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and they can receive a set free.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has produced a study guide to this DVD set, and that study guide is available online here. The DVDs and study guide are ideal for a study seminar or adult education class series.
