First Congregational Church UCC, Guilford, Connecticut
The Ten Thousand Villages store in New Haven, Connecticut, invited First Congregational Church of Guilford to be featured at the store on Sunday, November 27, 2011. Several church members were present providing hospitality, snacks, and information about being a Global Mission Church. Ten Thousand Villages in turn donated 10 percent of their sales for the day to the church with the stipulation that it be donated to a mission of the church’s choice. Their donation came to $312.50 which the church mission board designated for the work of the Christian Hospital in Mungeli, India, led by Global Ministries missionary Dr. Anil Henry.
Founded in 1946, Ten Thousand Villages has more than 70 retail stores in the United States, with additional stores in Canada. All Ten Thousand Villages stores are nonprofit organizations and many dedicated volunteers help to staff the stores.
