Julia Brown Karimu to Speak at CONASPEH Congress in Haiti
People-to-People pilgrimage to Haiti February 22-27
Global Ministries Co-Executive, Julia Brown Karimu and Latin America and the Caribbean Area Executive, Felix Ortiz will be leading a People-to-People Pilgrimage to Haiti February 22-27, 2012. A delegation from the Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, International will be a part of this historic trip along with several members of Faith Congregational UCC in Hartford, CT. The group will meet in Miami on February 22nd for a time of orientation and MMI training.
The goals of this pilgrimage are to provide an opportuhity for the participants to know the Global Ministries’ partners in Haiti, which are the National Spiritual Council of Churches of Haiti (CONASPEH) and the House of Hope; to learn about the religious, political, and social realities of the people of Haiti; and to engage in dialogue with the Haitian partners around common challenges.
One of the highlights of the trip will be the group’s participation in the CONASPEH Congress that usually gathers 3,000 or so members of CONASPEH affiliated congregations for worship, teaching, commissioning of nurses and ordination of pastors. The Congress will meet all week-end and Julia Brown Karimu will have the opportunity to address the assembly on Sunday morning during the time of worship. Several other Disciples and UCC groups will be present to accompany CONASPEH during this important time in the life of their member churches. Thanks for lifting them up in prayer this week-end.
