Rev. Bonanga Eliki, the President of the Community of the Disciples of Christ, has written from Boende (500 kms from Mbandaka) to announce the tragic death of the District Minister of Longa-Ingende, the Rev. Efomi.
Rev. Efomi had traveled to Mbandaka to submit a partnership report on the use of funds that had been sent by German partners for use at Longa-Ingende. On March 9, Rev. Efomi left Mbandaka to return to Ingende in a motorized canoe belonging to local merchants. The canoe capsized on March 10th about 25 minutes from shore. Rev. Efomi was one of at least 10 persons who drowned. The President of the Mettman/Ingende partnership committee, Rev. Bikela, was traveling with Rev. Efomi but managed to survive. News from Kinshasa that arrived at 7:20 am today states that the body of Reverend Efomi has been recovered along with 7 others. The search for other bodies continues. There were 40 persons onboard.
Rev. Efomi leaves behind a wife, six children (4 girls and 2 boys) ranging from 2 to 25 years. He was 58 years old. A large delegation left Mbandaka this morning for Ingende for the funeral and burial services.
Our prayers go out for the immediate and extended family of Rev Efomi, the entire church family of the CDCC, friends and loved ones. May Rev. Efomi be remembered as a faithful servant of Christ!
