2008-2009 has been very challenging for Bongani and the communities. We still have to learn and seek ways to address the problem facing the organization as there are still growing numbers of orphans.

2008-2009 has been very challenging for Bongani and the communities. We still have to learn and seek ways to address the problem facing the organization as there are still growing numbers of orphans. We have not arrived to a stage where we can relax. In the years since this programme started there has been exceptional good support from the Zimbabwe Synod and other local churches. The volunteers are still very committed, although there is some burn out and some have dropped. Ever since there has been there has been this violent change in our economy we know you have been praying for us and your prayers have taken us this far.

 

THE PROGRAMME

We have continued to work come rain or come sunshine to give our children the best we can. Our children have continued to do their best. The children that we started the programme with are grown up now, some are married by now and that means we are grannies already. Activities include educational assistance, day care center, and support groups.

 

ACHIEVEMENTS

One of our grown children has graduated in Motor Mechanics at WestGateSkillsCollege, two others are Red Cross trainees working as Nurse Aides, and one graduated in Nurse Training and is working at PlumtreeHospital.

 

WORKSHOPS AND TRAININGS

We have continued to attend or hold workshops that will keep us abreast with other organizations, especially those that will help the children as they grow up in this era of HIV/AIDS.

USE OF DONATIONS

Funds provided have been used for day care expenses (paper, crayons, food, cleaning supplies, and allowances for teachers), garden expenses (tools, seed, plowing and gardener’s allowances), fuel to visit outlying regions, and administrative expenses (phone, email, and stationary).

                                                                                                                                   

Scholarship funds have been used to support two of our children both in Form two at Lobengula Secondary. One stays with his widowed grandmother and is such an intelligent child, his only wish is to get educated. The other is average in class but is very eager to learn. We will help him during the holidays and have extra lessons.
