Swine Flu Report from Global Ministries Missionaries Serving in Mexico

I’m in Mexico, and thank God I’m well. Although I was on some ranches visiting churches over the weekend, I have already returned to Guadalajara where the virus still has not taken much effect. The government has given good, informative and educational coverage, and as a preventative measure has given instructions to suspend all activity in which there will be large gatherings of people; this includes educational centers, churches, weddings, conventions, birthdays, baptisms, sporting events, etc., especially on the weekend of May 1-6, due to the Labor Day festivities (May 1) and the celebration of the Battle of Puebla (May 5).

Thank God the media, namely the press, radio, television, and internet has not given into sensationalist reporting, avoiding what also helps with an adequate management of the social collective in general.

Also, as a preventative measure, the government through its distinct agencies – Health, Labor, Security, Treasury etc, is maintaining educational and informative programs encouraging people to stay in their homes until May 6. This date could be extended depending upon the expansion or reduction of the flu. The government is assuring basic and essential services to the public, so that operation and social mobility continues as possible. In general, the citizens are responding very responsibly, and this is helping to avoid the spread of the virus. But this doesn’t guarantee 100% safety.

“Critical Presence” accompaniment is how our Global Ministries office defines the work policy for missionaries. We are doing everything possible to be cautious, and to provide adequate sanitary care. Therefore we are trying to do as much work as possible from home and keep in contact with the pastors and churches with whom we work in Mexico. This is the least we can do, since the rest, which is a lot, always depends on the Lord.

It is amazing to see so many people using protective masks on their faces; for those that don’t have them, it’s almost certainly because there are no more in the country. That’s my case – tomorrow they are giving me some that a doctor who attends the church sent me. They have run out of masks. Today China, as international aid, sent a shipment of them.

The borders with Cuba and Argentina have been closed for the most part, but with the United States they are still open. This permits me to stay in the country. If the churches that I work with suspend their activities in the month of May, it’s possible that I will ask permission to leave the country until the activities are resumed. Thank you for being concerned about me; also I hope that you include in your prayers Mexico and the other countries in which the virus is already present, especially the families with limited economic resources. We pray for the prompt discovery of a vaccine; for peace and tranquility of everyone.

Hola a todos.

Estoy en México, y gracias a Dios bién. Aunque estuve en algunos campos visitando iglesias durante el fin de semana, ya regresé a Guadalajara donde el virus todavía no ha tomado mucha fuerza. El gobierno a dado buena cobertura informativa y educativa, y de forma preventiva ha dado instrucciones para suspender toda actividad en la que haya aglumeración de personas, esto incluye los centros educativos, las iglesias, bodas, convenciones, cumpleaños, bautismos, eventos deportivos, etc. Especialmente el fin de semana del 1 al 6 de mayo debido a las festividades del día del trabajo ( 1 de mayo) y la celebración de la Batalla de Puebla (5 de mayo)

Gracias a Dios los medios informativos, llamese, prensa escrita, radio, televisión, e internet no ha caido en la información amarillista evitando lo que también ayuda para un manejo adecuado del colectivo social en general.

También de forma preventiva, el gobierno por medio de las distintas agencias, Salud, Trabajo, Seguridad, Hacienda etc, mantiene programas educativos. informativos y de exortación a la para que permanescan en sus hogares hasta el 6 de mayo. Esta fecha puede ser extendida dependiendo como se comporte la expansión o reducción de la influenza. El gobierno le esta asegurando a la población los servicios básicos e indispenables, para que la operación y movilidad social continúe en lo posible. La ciudadanía en general está respondiendo muy responsablemente, y eso ayuda a evitar la propagación del virus. Pero eso no garantiza un 100% de seguridad.

Acompañamiento de “Presencia Crítica” es como nuestra oficiana de Ministerios Globales define la política de trabajo para los misioneros. Estamos haciendo lo posible de ser precavidos, de velar por un cuidado sanitario adecuado. Para ello estamos tratando de general el mayor trabajo posible desde la casa y en contacto con los pastores e iglesias con las que trabajamos en México. Eso es lo poco que podemos hacer pues lo demás, que es lo mucho, siempre depende de Señor.

Es impresionante ver tanta gente usando mascarillas protectoras en la cara, el que no las tienen es casi seguro que es porque no hay en existencia en el país, Ese es mi caso, mañana me entregan unas que me envió una doctora que asiste a la iglesia. Todas las mascarillas se agotarón. Hoy China, como ayuda internacional envió un embarque de éstas.

Las fronteras con Cuba y Argentina han sido suspendidas medianamente, pero con Estados Unidos continuán abiertas. Esto me permite continuar en el país. Si las Iglesias con las que trabajamos suspenden sus actividades en el mes de mayo es posible que solicite permiso para salir del país hasta que se reanuden las actividades. Gracias por preoucuparse por mi, también deseo que incluyan en sus oraciones a México y los demás países en los que el virus ya está presente, especialmente las familias de bajos recursos económicos. Oremos por un pronto descubrimiento de la vacuna, por la paz y tranquilidad de todos.
