More about elections in Zimbabwe on March 29

Below is the text of a letter sent to our partners by Sandra Gourdet, Africa office Executive.

Dear Partners in Mission,

We greet you in the name of our Lord!

As you prepare to go to the polls on March 29, 2008 for your Presidential and Parliamentarian elections, we pray that the God of Love and Grace will be your strength and guide. As one of your partner organizations in the United States and Canada, we pray that peace will prevail following the elections so that human life and dignity as ordained by God may be restored. Through our Global Ministries network, members of the United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada have been encouraged to remember you in prayer on Saturday. The letter that has been sent to churches and individuals is attached.

We, too, in America are preparing for our Presidential elections later this year. You will have noticed through the media that this election will test the faith and goodwill of the American people as we deal with issues of race, gender and religion. We covet your prayers as well.

Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 to “encourage one another, and build up one another”. This is my prayer as we continue to build our relationship and seek to be present for each other at the point of our deepest need.

May God continue to be with you, your loved ones and the nation of Zimbabwe.

Sincerely,
Rev Sandra R. Gourdet
Executive Secretary for Africa
