Death of Jeanette MacKenzie, long-time UCBWM Board member
Global Ministries was saddened to learn of the death of Jeanette MacKenzie, a UCBWM Board Member for many years and a member of FOCUS (Fellowship of Continuing Understanding and Support). Jeanette and her husband Bruce were active in their beloved congregation, First Congregational in Boulder and encouraged involvement in global mission. They traveled internationally and had been around the world twice, during which they visited many Global Ministries partners and missionaries.

 Jeanette was born in San Francisco 78 years ago to Nicholas A. Desin and Josefina Lassila. She grew up in San Francisco and Berkeley, graduating from Berkeley High School 61 years ago. She graduated from San Francisco State College with a Bachelors Degree and Teaching Credential in 1950. In Albany, California she taught elementary school until Randy was born. From then on she was a homemaker and a “professional volunteer”. Married to Bruce MacKenzie on June 17, 1951, she is survived by four children: Randall (wife Sue), Clark, Roderick (partner Brian), and Ellen (husband Ed), and 5 Grandchildren: Jessica, Ian and Shauna MacKenzie; Nicholas and Rachael McCoola.
Jeanette was very active in her church, First Congregational Church, Boulder; in the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Church of Christ; for many years on the Board of Mountain United Church Housing (MUCH); a Corporate Board Member of the United Church Board for World Ministries; and Church Women United. She was also very active in the League of Woman Voters, Fortnightly, Common Readers, PEO, The Democratic Party, and served on several Boulder Valley School Board Committees. She was a spunky woman and a great life mate, full of generosity and wisdom. Because of her outgoing personality, she was a people magnet, always visiting with folk as if she had seen them the day before. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, was warm, welcoming, friendly and enjoyed bringing people together. Widely read, she could converse on many topics. “I was proud and deeply grateful to be married to such a vital and wonderful woman”. |
