Support the YWCA of Palestine’s work with Palestinian refugees

Since 1948, following the Nakba (the Catastrophe), the YWCA of Palestine has been striving to support Palestinian refugees through our centers in Jalazone refugee camp outside of Ramallah and Aqbet Jaber refugee camp in Jericho. However, we are challenged, now more than ever, to continue to serve the Palestinian people due to COVID-19, UNRWA funding cut backs, increased population in the camps, and the continued Israeli occupation.

In the film you will see Hamza, a sixteen-year-old child living in the Jalazone Refugee Camp. At birth, he was deprived of oxygen causing him to be limited to a wheelchair. His disability has prevented him from living his childhood as any other kid in the camp. Due to their financial situation, Hamza’s family is unable to meet his special needs and cope with his disability.

Hamza’s story is one of many stories that shed light on the suffering of Palestinian refugees in camps. Much like in any other refugee camp, life in Jalazone has become unbearable. Refugees struggle to meet their everyday needs and live a life of marginalization and exclusion. As the Israeli occupation continues its systematic policies of forced displacement, many more Palestinians are becoming refugees. COVID-19 has exacerbated the dire humanitarian and socio-economic situation in the camps. We are also hoping to provide food, medical supplies, and hygiene kits for refugees.
