National Council of Churches of Kenya, a Global Ministries partner, Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize
Global Ministries celebrates the nomination of the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) for a Nobel Peace Prize. The NCCK shares more about their nomination and ministry:
Greetings from the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK).
Serving as a leading voice of witness to Jesus Christ since 1913, the NCCK is a family of churches and organizations bringing together more than 16 million Christians united in faith and mission and transforming lives.
We are pleased to inform you that the NCCK has been nominated for the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize.
In their letter of nomination, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) and the Quaker Peace and Social Witness stated that the nomination is, “intended to draw attention to global threats to democratic government and highlight activist organizations working to build and support democracy.”
The NCCK has more than 100 years been a leader, catalyst and agent of transforming lives of Kenyans for a just, resilient and sustainable society. Towards this, the NCCK has made an invaluable contributed to the democratization of Kenya, reintroduction of multi-party politics, overhaul of the Constitution of Kenya, elections observation, peace building, safeguarding of human rights of citizens, and promoted dialogue and mediation, healing and reconciliation. For decades, the NCCK has fostered political and civic participation by all people as a foundation for peace and prosperity. These efforts climaxed in the outbreak of peace experienced during and after the hotly contested 2022 General Elections that was driven by intensive peace messaging and campaigns for peaceful voting and seeking legal redress for disputed results in courts rather than on the streets as was witnessed in the past.
NCCK was nominated alongside the Florida Rights Restoration Center, an American organization that works to restore the rights of former convicts to vote in elections.
NCCK heartily thanks you for being our partner in the work we have done over the years. We look forward to further partnerships so that we continue to transform the lives of Kenyans.
