Prayers for Puerto Rico

God of life, we ask you to enlighten those who claim their rights on the streets of Puerto Rico so that their actions bring positive solutions to the country’s problems. Lord, may we take this moment of prayer as an opportunity to unite as a church and work together in the search for the common good to overcome the crisis, corruption, violence, and other evils. God of life, have mercy on our Puerto Rican people!

We also pray for the accompanying ministry of the Iglesia Evangélica Unida de Puerto Rico (United Evangelical Church of Puerto Rico) and its different community ministries: Bartimeo, Jesus Bread of Life, CINERET, Onesimus, Right to Mana MAVAC, Lunch of Love, Dorcas and his friends, and Heart to Heart. We lift up prayers for the leadership of women and men in those ministries, knowing that you call us to lead by service. We implore you, in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN.

Mission Moment from Puerto Rico

I think we have all read or heard this passage from the Bible on more than one occasion. The one who gives does it with simplicity. The one who occupies a position of responsibility performs his role with all care; the one who helps those in need does it with joy. We enter this reading of the Exodus with the happy note of how God saved Israel from hunger through the leadership and the call of Moses and Joseph. Without a doubt, God redeemed the people of Israel through the leadership of Moses, Joseph, Miriam, the daughter of the Pharaoh, the mid-room, and the mother of Moses. Through the exercise of this call and leadership, the health of all the bitterness they accumulated during captivity.

It is straightforward to know if we are true Christians when, through our leadership and call, we accompany all those victims of slavery and bitterness generated by a society that becomes increasingly unjust and throws people into loneliness and despair.

Without a doubt, faith is what saves. Still, true faith is manifested by assuming the call and exercising it without fear of the leadership that this entails. In the Hebrew scriptures, fearing God means trusting him, having reverence and faith, and obeying God’s will. Let’s look at the example of Hebrew midwives. Although Pharaoh exercises power over the life or death of these women, they are determined to fulfill God’s will and trust that God will vindicate their loyalty.

I believe this continues to be our great challenge in this time as a church, one of accompanying God’s will and acting in justice. The wisdom of the heart is to go out of itself toward our neighbors. Let us not forget the dimension of gratuitousness, of caring for the other. May Jesus help us remember that we must live the life he has given us in solidarity and always with our hands full of concrete acts of love.

Oración por Puerto Rico:

Dios de la vida te pedimos que ilumines a quienes reclaman sus derechos en las calles de Puerto Rico, de manera que sus acciones redunden en soluciones positivas para los problemas del país. Señor, que tomemos este momento de oración como una gran oportunidad para unirnos como iglesia y trabajar juntos, en la búsqueda del bien común para superar la crisis, la corrupción, la violencia y otros males” ¡Dios de la Vida, ten misericordia de nuestro pueblo puertorriqueño!

Oramos también por el ministerio de acompañamiento de la Iglesia Evangélica Unida de Puerto Rico y sus diferentes ministerios comunitarios: Bartimeo, Jesús Pan de Vida, CINERET, Onésimo, Derecho a Maná MAVAC, Almuerzo de Amor, Dorcas y sus amigos, y Corazón a Corazón. Elevamos oraciones por el liderazgo de mujeres y hombres en esos ministerios, sabiendo que nos llamas a liderar mediante el servicio. Lo pedimos en el nombre de Jesús, el Cristo. AMÉN

Momento Misionero:

Llamamiento y liderato

Creo que todos hemos leído o escuchado en más de alguna oportunidad, este pasaje de la Biblia. El que da, hágalo con sencillez; el que ocupa un puesto de responsabilidad, desempeñe su cargo con todo cuidado; el que ayuda a los necesitados, hágalo con alegría. Entramos en esta lectura del Éxodo con la nota feliz de cómo Dios salvó a Israel del hambre mediante el, liderato y el llamado de Moisés y José. Sin duda Dios redimió al pueblo de Israel mediante el liderato de Moisés, José, Miriam, la hija del faraón las partera y la medre de Moisés. Mediante el ejercicio de estos llamado y liderato lo sanó de toda la amargura que acumularon en medio del cautiverio.

Es muy simple saber si somos verdaderos cristianos cuando mediante nuestra liderato y llamado acompañamos a todas aquellas personas que son victima de la esclavitudes y de amarguras generadas por una sociedad que cada vez se torna más injusta y arroja a las personas a la soledad y a la desesperación.

Sin duda alguna la fe es lo que salva, pero la verdadera fe se manifiesta mediante el asumir el llamado y ejercerlo sin miedo el liderato que ello conlleva. En las escrituras hebreas, el temer a Dios significa confiar en él y tener reverencia y fe, obedeciendo la voluntad de Dios. Miremos el ejemplo de las parteras hebreas, aunque Faraón ejerza poder sobre la vida o la muerte de estas mujeres, ellas están determinadas a cumplir la voluntad de Dios y confían que Dios vindicará su lealtad.

Creo que este sigue siendo nuestro gran reto en este tiempo como iglesia uno de acompañar y hacer la voluntad de Dios y obrar en justicia. La sabiduría del corazón es salir de sí hacia el hermano. No olvidemos la dimensión de la gratuidad, del ocuparse del otro. Que Jesús nos ayude a recordar que la vida que nos dado la tenemos que vivir en solidaridad y siempre con las manos llenas de actos concretos de amor.
