Prayers for Hungary

Prayer for the renewal of our church and congregations

Thank you, our Eternal God, that you are not restrained by earthly powers and events!

We often feel vulnerable when we almost resign ourselves to the fact that there are people, situations, and times growing above us and exerting influence over us.

We thank you, our God of deliverance, that you are able to open these prison doors that have been locked on us and those we have closed ourselves.

We ask you to lead us into the fresh air of freedom according to the Spirit! Let us breathe in our personal faith, in our community life! Give your Church this true, holy freedom, which does not wander like a river without banks but lives with the loving, faithful responsibility recognized in your revelation.

We thank you, Caring God, that you look to us with hope as your children, your people, redeemed in Christ, called to salvation!

We ask that we may be strengthened in this hope day by day! Make us siblings in Christ, supporting one another and strengthening one another! Make us joyful and courageous messengers of your life-liberating love!

We thank you, our God of the New Creation, that we can look to you with a pure heart and see in you the future that leads beyond our human limitations to freedom, to freedom with you – now and forever.

AMEN

Mission Moment from Hungary

In 2024, the Year of the Living Word, the Mission Service of the Reformed Church in Hungary, is launching a nationwide Reformed prayer chain for the spiritual renewal of congregations and the church. For a spiritual awakening that seeks to serve the glory of God by receiving and living God’s radiant love for us as fully as possible and radiating it to others.

Bishop József Steinbach, Ministerial President of the Synod of the Reformed Church in Hungary, opened the event with a message on Friday, 17 May. Every following Friday, the Mission Service publishes a verbal message to be distributed as a handout in congregations in preparation for the Tuesday prayer events. The prayer chain can be performed individually or in families, at home or in churches. Churches are invited to open their doors to congregants during the prayer hour for all those who wish to join in the prayer chain. The prayer chain will continue for 15 weeks until September 2nd.

“A living church in its living congregations” is the title of the national Reformed prayer chain promoted by the Missionary Service in the Year of the Living Word. Levent Zoltán Hajdú, head of the Mission Service of the RCH, says, “The point of this chain of prayer is to recognize the person- and community-organizing power of prayer that can permeate and dynamize the workings of the church. This is why it is symbolic that the initiative is being launched after Pentecost, the feast of the filling of the Spirit.”
