Congo Pastors’ Pension Endowment Fund
Congo Pastors Pension Endowment Fund
Democratic Republic of Congo
The Congo Pastors Pension Endowment Fund originated as a Division of Overseas Ministries permanent fund in 2007 as a result of a Global Ministries meeting in Indianapolis during which Reverend Eliki Bonanga, President of the Community of the Disciples in Congo (CDCC), spoke about the needs of retired CDCC pastors, their widows, and their children. The CDCC has been affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada since 1899, and is a longstanding partner of Global Ministries. At the time of the Fund’s establishment, the CDCC had 324 congregations with 750,000 members. Unfortunately, Reverend Bonanga communicated in 2007, pastors have little pension or means of sustaining themselves and their families after they retire.
Those attending the meeting decided to step forward together with Global Ministries and other donors, and the Congo Pastors Pension Endowment Fund was established through the Division of Overseas Ministries/Global Ministries. Each year distributions from the Congo Pastors Pension Endowment Fund provide pension support for retired pastors of the Community of the Disciples of Christ of the Congo and their families.
