Co-organized by the World Council of Churches, World Communion of Reformed Churches, Lutheran World Federation, World Methodist Council, and Council for World Mission, the Ecumenical School on Governance, Economics and Management for an Economy of Life (GEM School) aims to strengthen the voice of the churches with regards to global economic systems. There are over twenty current and future church leaders participating in the 2024 GEM school hosted by St. Paul’s University in Limuru, Kenya (WCC, 2024).
On 22nd August 2024, the AACC Programme Executive for Economic and Ecological Justice, Dr. Tinashe Gumbo addressed the participants, expressing AACC’s joy that the GEM school 2024 was happening in Africa. Sharing about AACC’s role in promoting responsible stewardship and sustainable development in Africa, Dr. Tinashe affirmed that the GEM School is very fundamental in strengthening the Church’s role in global economic governance.
He noted that the world is endowed with adequate resources, yet most people are living in poverty because of the global economic systems that are not working for humanity. Dr. Tinashe assured the participants of AACC’s support and mutual accompaniment in transforming such systems.
