Bridgman Center update
Reverend Dumisani Nxumalo is the new director of Bridgman Development Centre since early 2010. He is a former Bridgman student who went on to graduate from college and move into a professional job before coming back to serve as leadership at Bridgman. Because Reverend Dumisani sees Bridgman as being so pivotal in his development, he did not want Bridgman to close because of a lack of leadership. Funding for Bridgman Development Centre is such that he does not currently even receive a salary but is committed to this work.
The United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA), founded in 1967, has a strong established partnership with Global Ministries. One of the South African UCCSA congregations is in Zola Soweto and operates the UCCSA Bridgman Development Centre. The Centre opened in 1975 and today continues to support students from this community which is riddled with poverty, violence, discrimination, and despair.

The Saturday School, After Care Program, and Girls Against the Spread of AIDS (GASA) are all still projects of the Bridgman Center under the leadership of Reverend Dumisani. Bridgman offers opportunities for recreation and crafts but the first priority upon arriving is to spend some time reading and either using the computer or writing. Children and youth also receive a snack while they are at the Centre.
