B’Tselem’s response to the ICC prosecutor’s decision to open an investigation against Israel

The ICC Prosecutor’s decision to open an investigation of the situation in Palestine is a necessary step, following decades in which Israel committed – and continues to commit – crimes with impunity. We see the victims of Israel’s policies and we reiterate that without accountability these policies will be perpetuated. The ICC was established as a court of last resort, for cases in which a state fails to hold the senior officials responsible for serious crimes, to account. Israel, deliberately, fails to do so.
