Cahill Family Fund
The Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Cahill Family Fund was established in 2018 at the request of Mrs. Jane Cahill, after learning what her son, Jonathan Cahill, experienced and witnessed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on an extended visit. Distributions from the Cahill Family Fund support the ministries of the Community of Disciples of Christ in Congo (CDCC) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a priority for medical ministries.
In the summer of 2017, Jonathan Cahill, at that time a student at the University of Chicago Divinity School, traveled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to do research for his Master of Divinity Senior Ministry Project, while also serving as a Global Ministries Short-Term Volunteer. His aim was to learn from the CDCC about its history and its understanding of the mission of the church and concept of partnership. Jonathan witnessed the breadth and depth of the work that the CDCC does in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including its many and varied medical ministries. Upon returning home and sharing some of his experiences with friends and family, his mother, Jane Cahill, was especially struck by the medical care needs that exist in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Jane decided to establish the Cahill Family Fund to honor Jonathan’s experiences and the family’s commitment to God’s global mission in the world as they seek to be in solidarity with the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
