Call for an End to the Violence in Israel and Gaza
We are all still reeling from the reports of tragic loss of life and continued atrocities taking place in Israel and Gaza. There is a growing concern that the cycle of violence could escalate into a wider regional war if steps are not taken to de-escalate this conflict. As we mourn, and pray for those who have lost loved ones, particularly those still seeking information on the well-being of friends and family, we must call on policymakers to support a Just Peace.
In this tense moment, it is important for Congress to hear messages from advocates calling for de-escalation and for restraint from measures that would only intensify the violence. Join the United Church of Christ and our ecumenical partners in telling our elected leaders that we support calls for an immediate ceasefire, steps toward de-escalation, and respect for international law to prevent further civilian harm.
As a Just Peace Church, we also know that an end to the immediate acts of violence will not automatically bring justice. The international community must address the core systemic issues of the war and ongoing occupation of Palestinian territory that is necessary in the long term to build a real peace. As we continue in our prayer for those impacted and as we find hope in our belief that peace is possible, may we, too, take action to urge our legislators to be leaders in calling for a Just Peace.
