Congregational Church of Amherst, NH, holds U2charist
On May 31, 2008, the walls of the 234 year old Congregational Church of Amherst, New Hampshire, United Church of Christ, rocked in worship at a U2charist. This service helped to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals and featured the music of the Irish rock band, U2, throughout the service. All those who attended sang, clapped, tossed earth balls around the sanctuary, and generally rocked on, all the while being inspired to follow Jesus’ mandate to help the poor and love your neighbor, especially our neighbors in distant lands. Approximately 100 people attended this service, which included a sermon by Pastor Catriona Grant, communion accompanied by live Haitian drumming, and a special offering to support Global Ministries House of Hope program, which educates some of the poorest children in the slums of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Thanks to the generosity of those who attended, this offering raised approximately $1700. It was a special evening of worship, fellowship, and community. Jesus rocked!
