Death of Victor H. Vaca, Former Missionary to Paraguay and Ecuador
1932 – 2013
It is with great sadness that Global Ministries learned of the death of Dr. Victor Hugo Vaca, former missionary to Paraguay and Ecuador on February 18, 2013.
Victor Vaca was born June 30, 1932, inQuito,Ecuador. He attended the Central University in Quito, Ecuador, receiving a Master’s degree in Sociology and Political Science, and studied toward the Doctorate in Sociology at this university from 1975-76. He married to Violet Groth Vaca on September 25, 1965. She preceded him in death in 2008.
Victor and Violet began service with the Division of Overseas Ministries (today Global Ministries), assigned to Friendship Mission,Asunción,Paraguayfrom 1970-76. In 1977-78, Victor was assigned by DOM to the World Council of Churches,Geneva,Switzerland, Commission on World Mission and Evangelism. From 1979-82, the DOM assigned him to the World Council of Churches, Geneva, Switzerland, as consultant on the relation between holistic health care and development with the Christian Medical Commission.
Victor and Violet Vaca returned toQuito,Ecuadorin 1983, assigned to the United Evangelical Church of Ecuador, and the Rural Pastoral Ministry (PRE). From 1987-92, Victor served as national advisor for the pastoral and development programs of the Ecuadorian Rural Pastoral Ministry, Quito, Ecuador, and continued in this same capacity from 1992-1994. He then served with the Ecumenical Foundation for Integral Development, Training and Education (FEDICE),Ecuadorfrom 1994 until his retirement in 2005, and continued with FEDICE as a long-term volunteer until his death.
