The trip is part of Ridings’ full-tuition Disciples Leadership Program Scholarship. The four-year scholarship is based on membership in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), leadership, academic excellence and the commitment to explore during college a life of faith-based servant leadership. Scholars receive two on-site mentorships exploring service anywhere in the world. The program pays for travel and living expenses for the mentorships.
Ridings is mentoring with Vitalino Simolox who works with the Conferencia de Iglesias Evangelicas de Guatemala, a partner of Global Ministries, as he teaches and attends a Spanish immersion school. Ridings also will assist with teaching classes at a seminary. He will be located in Chimaltenango, Antigua and Guatemala City.
Ridings is a son of Mark and Shari Ridings of Salem. He is a 2010 graduate of South Salem High School.
